I guess I may not need an alarm clock.
This morning, a male Koel, which sometimes were mistaken for Crows or Mynahs, sang and woke me up from my sweet slumber. Do you know Koels first arrived in the 1980s and made Singapore their home as well [Source: Wiki].
Anyhow, I had plans to visit Jacob Ballas Children Garden this morning.
I should be grateful to him.
At least, I could enjoy a 2-hour walk before the skies turn grey. I will share with you some pictures of what I’ve seen along the way, walking from Farrer Gardens estate.
Do you know how a male Koel sounds like? Google it
Psst… about the birds seen on the banner above – young pair of Female Koel (on the left) and Male Koel (on the right)

Yes, I recognise their sound from when I used to visit my grandparents at their home in Bukit Timah. Never knew what they were called till now
Koels are very loud when they sing and has a distinct “koo-whey koo-whey” for males and “kik-kik-kik-kik” for females.
They can also be spotted elsewhere in Yishun too
ah now I know what this bird is called… I too only recognise the sound that they made but never know what these birds are called
We learn something new each day
I last spotted a black bird with orange beak like a pelican in the tree outside my unit last week, din have the time to grab my camera. Got quite a few squirrels popping by the neighbourhood as well.
yes! Squirrels! I often seen them climbing over the walls and trees as well. But, they moved too quickly to photograph.
Black bird with orange beak? sounds like mynahs…
